Profile and terminology
An elliptical head has an elliptical crown joined to a straight flange. This profile is used as an end closure in boiler and pressure vessel designs. Ellipsoidal head is another common name for this shape.
GB/T 25198-2023 models: EHA / EHB
EHA specifies the inside diameter; EHB specifies the outside diameter. The GB/T 25198-2023 profiles shown in our inquiry tool use a 2:1 elliptical relationship. State which diameter basis your drawing uses before comparing dimensions.
What to include in your inquiry
Diameter and its inside or outside basis; nominal thickness; minimum thickness after forming if specified; straight flange length; overall depth; material grade; quantity.
Use millimetres for dimensions. Identify the exact material grade rather than only writing “steel” or “stainless steel”. You can also include edge preparation, inspection requirements, delivery needs and a drawing reference in the notes.

Elliptical heads are also searched for as ellipsoidal heads or semi-elliptical heads. These names alone do not define a complete manufacturing drawing. State the profile ratio, diameter basis and applicable standard for your pressure vessel head.

Can I use the same dimensions for GB/T and ASME elliptical heads?
Do not assume dimensional equivalence or certification from the name elliptical head. Provide the required standard, edition and approved drawing. The online GB/T 25198-2023 profiles are inquiry references, not an ASME design calculation.

Which material should I specify?

No. The GB/T 25198-2023 diagrams describe the profiles used by this inquiry tool. If a project requires another code, provide its designation and drawing for review; no ASME certification is claimed here.
